Angine de Poitrine: in Italy for a single date, the most acclaimed Canadian duo of the moment

In the span of just a few months, Angine de Poitrine have gone from cult favorite among insiders to the most acclaimed musical phenomenon of the moment. Their performance at KEXP studios (see below) marked a turning point, amplifying their visibility and opening doors both in the specialist press and in mainstream media. Their debut, "Vol. I" (2024) — now hard to find except at inflated prices — and the new "Vol. II", out this week, capture a phase of growing, well-established exposure.

To coincide with the release of their second album, the Canadian duo has announced their 2026 European tour, with an itinerary taking in the UK, France, Belgium, the Netherlands, Germany and Portugal, alternating between clubs and festivals.

The schedule also includes an Italian date: May 31 at the Poplar Utopia Festival, hosted at the MART in Rovereto. It's the only date in our country, offering a chance to see live the project of Khn de Poitrine (guitar, bass, loops, vocals) and Klek de Poitrine (drums).

Angine de Poitrine's music – the name borrowed from the French term for angina pectoris – sits within the realm of contemporary math-rock, echoing acts like Battles, King Gizzard & the Lizard Wizard and black midi, with tight rhythmic structures and intricate harmonic interplay reworked into a more immediate form, strongly geared toward performance, with a visual presentation tailor-made for social media circulation: black-and-white polka-dot costumes, masks with elongated noses, a deliberately estranging aesthetic.

Their audience has grown suddenly and exponentially. Just a few months ago the project had modest numbers on Instagram; today it's closing in on half a million followers. A turning point came with the KEXP live session, recorded during an event in France and quickly spreading online: the video has racked up over six million views on YouTube. From there, the phenomenon kept building through TikTok and Instagram clips, fuelled by a steady stream of reactions, memes and comments that further amplified its visibility.
