Agnes Obel will return to Italy in autumn 2027 to perform live "The Meaning Of Flowers", her new album. Two dates have been announced: Wednesday 13 October at the Teatro Duse in Bologna and Thursday 14 October at the Auditorium Parco della Musica in Rome. Tickets will be available from 10am on Friday 18 September on TicketOne.
The two dates will thus offer the chance to hear live the album with which the Berlin-based Danish singer-songwriter broke a six-year recording silence, following 2020's "Myopia". Released by Deutsche Grammophon, "The Meaning Of Flowers" was written, recorded, arranged and produced entirely by Obel in her Berlin studio: a deeply personal work in which the birth of her daughter and the experience of motherhood become the starting point for a broader reflection on transformation, new beginnings and the shifting relationship with the outside world.
These intimate events are interwoven with a web of literary and philosophical references that includes the poetry of Enheduanna, the Sumerian priestess considered the first author in history known by name, Hannah Arendt's concept of natality, and Emanuele Coccia's writings on plants and metamorphosis. It is from this meeting of personal experience, myth and philosophical thought that songs such as "The Meaning Of Flowers", "Gemini", "Laymelli" and "Blood So Red" take shape.
Musically, the twelve tracks continue Obel's exploration of electro-folk and chamber sounds, built around slowly unfolding piano melodies, strings, harp and delicate electroacoustic textures: from the music-box quality of “Never Been” to the measured stride of “Blood So Red”, from the harp of “No Such Thing As Silence” to the modern-classical excursions of “Beyond The Sun”, through to the restrained dance of “Tangerine” and the piano ballad “Don’t Look Down”. What emerges is an intimate, suspended record, in which the wonder of motherhood translates into music that is even more inward-looking, luminous and contemplative.
