From Miles Kane to Franz Ferdinand, from Animal Collective to Suede

Miles Kane feat. Dan Auerbach – “Love Is Cruel”

When two rock'n'roll souls meet in the studio, the result can be either explosive or catastrophic. In the case of Miles Kane and Dan Auerbach, frontman of Black Keys, the equation seems to have struck black gold. “Sunlight In The Shadows”, out October 17 via Easy Eye Sound, is the Englishman's sixth full-length and marks a turning point in his artistic career. Listen to the first single “Love Is Cruel” below.

Franz Ferdinand feat. Johnny Marr – “Build It Up”

Franz Ferdinand renew their collaboration with Johnny Marr, this time taking it straight into the studio. After their joint performance last January at Manchester's Aviva Studios for Amazon Music's City Sessions, where the former Smiths guitarist joined the Glaswegians for a live rendition of “Build It Up” from the recent “Human Fear”, the definitive studio recording of the track has now arrived, which you can listen to below:

Animal Collective – “Love On The Big Screen”

The Animal Collective return to the music scene in 2025 with “Love on the Big Screen”, their first new track of the year. The song, produced by Avey Tare in collaboration with Adam McDaniel of Drop of Sun Studios, precedes the release of a 7” single due out on August 1 via Domino Records. The vinyl will also include the unreleased track “Buddies On The Blackboard” as its B-side.

Paul Weller – “I Started A Joke”

Paul Weller has shared an evocative cover of “I Started A Joke” by the Bee Gees. This striking reinterpretation of the historic trio's 1968 classic will appear on the new covers album by the former Style Council leader, titled “Find El Dorado”, out July 25 via Parlophone. The track follows Weller's recent versions of “Lawdy Rolla” (originally recorded by the obscure French studio outfit The Guerrillas) and “Pinball” (by Brian Protheroe). Listen to it below:

Suede – “Trance State”

New single from Suede. The British band has shared “Trance State”, the second track lifted from their tenth studio album, “Antidepressants”, out September 5, 2025.

The track, premiered on Jo Whiley's show on Bbc Radio 2, fully captures the magnetic energy of “Antidepressants”' sound, with jagged basslines and icy guitars building a tense, intense atmosphere, while Brett Anderson's lyrics probe the shadows of the human psyche, tackling themes of obsession, self-delusion and paranoia. “When you fall apart, there's such honesty and truth in that. You're revealing your true self. You're showing yourself to the world with no filter whatsoever. You're no longer able to keep up a facade. You're simply you”. That's how Brett Anderson described the song.
