Heimito Künst

Heimito Künst is a mysterious sound project concealed behind a literary pseudonym, taken from Roberto Bolaño's “The Savage Detectives”.

He debuted in 2021 on Dissipatio with a self-titled album recorded over the course of three years in a home setting and subsequently mastered by Simon Balestrazzi. The record contains a sonic multitude captured live with the aid of ambient microphones, giving rise to a hypnotic magma in which sparse electroacoustic textures, field recordings, tapes, instruments and often heavily filtered voices all merge together.

The following year came “Post Exoticism”, a tape released by Shrimper, which starts from the same coordinates – shifted towards more linear, less abrasive landscapes – to build an ideal sonic rendering of Antoine Volodine's “Radiant Terminus”.

In 2024 came “First Light”, which sees him collaborating with Dennis Callaci of Refrigerator. From the successful intersection of the two creative dimensions at play comes a sequence of diluted song forms with a lysergic flavour, where the heterogeneous textures of tapes, synths and acoustic instruments shaped by Künst act as an atmospheric substrate against which Callaci's theatrical delivery stands out. Two years later came “Vol. 3”, with which he continues his project of normalizing sonic matter. An album less inclined towards narrative tout court in favour of an immersive whole shaped by analogue machines, culminating in one last melancholy song with new wave echoes in the background.
