Francesco Gabbani is a singer-songwriter and multi-instrumentalist born in Carrara (Massa-Carrara) on 9 September 1982. Over the course of his career he has released five studio albums, racking up 13 platinum records and 4 gold records. He is the author of several major hits, including "Amen", with which he won the Sanremo Music Festival in 2016 in the New Proposals category, "Occidentali's Karma", with which he won the Sanremo Music Festival in 2017 in the Big Artists category, "Tra le granite e le granate", "Viceversa", which came second at the Festival in 2020, and "Spazio Tempo", the theme song of the TV series "Un Professore".
He has also written songs for other artists, including Mina, Adriano Celentano and Ornella Vanoni, as well as original soundtracks.
Between 2016 and 2022 he released four studio albums: "Eternamente ora" (2016), "Magellano" (2017), "Viceversa" (2020), and "Volevamo solo essere felici" (2022).
In February 2016 Gabbani won the 66th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival in the New Proposals section with the song "Amen" (certified platinum), also picking up the Mia Martini Critics' Award in the New Proposals section and the Sergio Bardotti Award for best lyrics. "Eternamente Ora" (BMG Rights Management), the album featuring the single, entered the Top 20 of the Gfk-Fimi chart of best-selling albums in Italy. A tour followed in summer, running through to September across Italy.
In February 2017 Francesco Gabbani won the 67th edition of the Sanremo Music Festival with the catchy pop of "Occidentali's Karma" (six platinum records), and for the first time in the Festival's history an artist won consecutively first in the New Proposals category and then among the Big Artists. Through a series of references and wordplay, the song pokes fun at the way Westerners try to "ape" customs typical of Eastern culture.
Gabbani then took part in the 62nd Eurovision Song Contest, finishing sixth and winning the press room award. "Occidentali's Karma" stayed at the top of the radio airplay chart for weeks.
On 28 April "Magellano" (BMG Rights Management Italy) was released, the album featuring "Occidentali's Karma", which went straight in at number one on the sales chart. The new single taken from the album, "Tra le granite e le granate" (double platinum), topped the radio airplay chart and stayed there for weeks. In June a new official tour kicked off, comprising 44 dates, and at the end of the year "Magellano Special Edition" (BMG Rights Management Italy) was released, a double CD featuring, alongside the original "Magellano" album, a live recording titled "Sudore, fiato, cuore".
At the start of 2018 Gabbani held a special concert at the Mandela Forum in Florence, performing in an arena for the first time. During the summer Gabbani was busy with "#GABBALIVE18", a summer mini-tour that saw him perform in extraordinary outdoor venues, and at the end of the year he celebrated New Year's Eve 2019 in one of Italy's most important squares, Piazza Duomo in Milan.
In 2020 he returned to the Sanremo Music Festival competing with the song "Viceversa", which came second. After taking part in the Festival he released the new album named after the single. At the end of July "Inedito acustico" kicked off, a new summer tour designed specifically to finally allow him to return to performing live and reconnect, up close, with his fans.
At the start of 2021 he made his acting debut in "La donna per me", a film by Marco Martani starring Andrea Arcangeli and Alessandra Mastronardi. In July he held a celebratory concert at the Arena di Verona. In November he released "Spazio Tempo" (certified platinum), a new previously unreleased track chosen as the theme song for the Rai TV series "Un Professore", directed by Alessandro D'Alatri and starring Alessandro Gassman and Claudia Pandolfi.
In 2022 Gabbani hosted, in primetime on Rai1, "Ci vuole un fiore", the first green show on Italian state television, an original format combining the lightness of variety entertainment with the theme of environmental sustainability.
That same year he released his new album "Volevamo solo essere felici", preceded by the title-track single. In June he set off on a new summer tour that culminated, in early October, with two special concerts at the Mediolanum Forum in Assago (Milan) and the Palazzo dello Sport in Rome.
In 2023 he returned to TV with "Ci vuole un fiore", with two primetime episodes on Rai1. On 7 April he released, to radio and digital platforms, "L'abitudine", his new previously unreleased single written with Fabio Ilacqua. In July a new summer tour kicked off, taking him around Italy to present his new live show "Ci vuole un fiore tour".
On September 9th, he held "Finalmente a casa," a special concert/event in his hometown of Carrara, in front of ten thousand people. A surprise guest took the stage: Maestro Andrea Bocelli, whom Francesco accompanied on piano in a moving performance of "Nessun dorma."
On May 3rd, "Frutta malinconia" was released on radio and digital platforms, a brand-new single and the first piece of his upcoming record project.
On December 19th, 2024, his new arena tour kicked off with a special sold-out concert at Unipol Forum in Milan, continuing on through 2025.
In February 2025, Gabbani returned to the Sanremo Festival for the fourth time to present "Viva la vita," a track that marks a new chapter in his career. On cover night, he duetted with Francesco Tricarico on "Io sono Francesco."
On February 21st, 2025, "Dalla tua parte," his sixth studio album, is due out. The record marks a new artistic phase for the Tuscan singer-songwriter, who with tracks like "Viva la vita" – his entry at Sanremo – explores themes tied to the meaning of life, within the tangles of everyday existence and the attitudes we adopt toward our own experiences.
