Dua Lipa

Dua Lipa is a British pop star, born on August 22, 1995 in London to Kosovo Albanian parents. She spent several years in Pristina, Kosovo, before moving to London as a teenager and starting to put her passion for music to work.

She begins sharing her covers on YouTube, gaining significant attention. In 2015 she signs with Warner, through the same management as Lana Del Rey, releasing her debut single "New Love" in 2015 and landing on the BBC's annual Sound of...2016 list.

The self-titled debut LP "Dua Lipa" comes out in June 2017 and is a pure concentrate of pop songwriting, packed with memorable choruses and songs that work through sheer immediacy and simplicity. The product of nearly two years of development, with a nomination for the BBC Sound of 2016 along the way putting a spotlight on a name rightly worth keeping an eye on, the album manages to inject some real vitality, and above all some genuine pop, into the music scene of a country that by now seems able to make itself interesting abroad only through its old glories and a dense, ever-simmering electronic underground.

With a powerful contralto, instantly recognisable amid a sea of warbling divas and fluttering fairies, Dua Lipa is the undisputed star of her own songs, equally at ease bending her voice into emotive soul inflections (as on the urban-acoustic masterpiece "Thinking 'Bout You", a track Jess Glynne would envy), and driving the beat of the most frantic dance tracks, where she gets to show off thrilling vocal climbs ("Dreams", bursting with a physicality rarely heard on the current British scene).

"Dua Lipa" tops numerous charts and reaches number 27 on the Billboard 200. In the meantime, she takes on various international collaborations, including one with our own Annalisa.

After contributing to a number of film soundtracks - including James Foley's "Fifty Shades Darker" and Robert Rodriguez's "Alita: Battle Angel" - and after releasing the singles "One Kiss" with Calvin Harris, "Electricity" with Silk City, and "Swan Song", Dua Lipa announces her second album.

With "Future Nostalgia" (2020), the popstress ascends into the pantheon of Anglophone pop thanks to an agile run of disco-funk tunes. In its conciseness (not even forty minutes long), Dua Lipa's hugely anticipated second album answers the need for liberating dance music with a naturalness that is quite striking, and it does so by aiming straight at the purest essence of the genre: the songs. Having easily moved past the stylistic pot-pourri underlying her still-solid debut, the new project finds the author of "New Rules" lacing up her dancing shoes and heading straight for the floor, surrendering to the pleasure of the most infectious dance music around.

Propelled by the singles "Don't Start Now" and "Levitating" (both peaking at No. 2 on the Hot 100), "Future Nostalgia" climbs to No. 3 on the Billboard 200.

In 2023 Dua Lipa records the lead single from the soundtrack of the box-office smash "Barbie", namely "Dance The Night", with which she scores her fourth UK number one and her fifth US top ten. The film also marks Lipa's acting debut, playing a mermaid Barbie. At the same time, the British singer is busy wrapping up work on her third album of new material. Promotion for the project kicks off in autumn 2023 with the release of the single "Houdini".

In her brief and extraordinary rise, Dua Lipa has already won numerous Grammys, including Best New Artist in 2019 and Best Pop Vocal Album for "Future Nostalgia" in 2021.

Besides her musical career, Lipa is also active in fashion: she has been an ambassador for the Italian fashion house Patrizia Pepe since 2017, and for the Anglo-Spanish brand Pepe Jeans since 2019. Dua Lipa has never failed to point to her roots as a Kosovo Albanian as a core part of her identity. In 2022 she was named Honorary Ambassador of Kosovo, and since November 2022 she has also held Albanian citizenship.
