SERA CAHOONE - I’ve Missed You All These Years

"I've Missed You All These Years" is a record full of unanswered questions, a new chapter arriving after ten years of silence from the Seattle artist, who has been welcomed back with open arms by her old label Sub Pop following a rather abrupt split.
Sera Cahoone is right to be asking herself questions about what the last decade has taken from her: a father, her best friend and her dog. Inevitably, the songs end up serving a personal, therapeutic purpose, but for the first time the singer-songwriter's vocal qualities seem to have found the right ground for a more balanced, mature blend of country, folk, blues and pop music.

Between typically twang-style songs ("Horse Runnin'"), pop numbers built for radio airplay ("Say Something") and a melancholy ballad fit for the chronicles of our times ("Supposed To Be"), Sera Cahoone delivers a heartfelt, sincere work, though not exactly an original one.
Recorded with longtime collaborators and friends – including Jeff Fielder (guitar and banjo), Jason Kardong (pedal steel), Daniel Walker (keyboards), Jonas Haskins (bass), Keith Lowe (double bass), Aaron O'Neil (drums) and Alex Guy (strings) – "I've Missed You All These Years" revisits patterns and ideas close to the solo debut of the former Carissa's Wierd vocalist.

While it draws the occasional smile without ever going beyond fleeting pleasantness, and highlights the good versatility and quality of the songwriting ("Tangled Night" and "Something Good"), the feeling remains of a project that won't win over anyone outside the narrow circle of genre devotees.
