Active since 2020, the alter ego Sacrobosco, created by Giacomo Giunchedi (Torakiki) for his solo electronic explorations after the Cadori project, arrives at his fifth full-length, the second released on his own Antinational Noise. A new step that finds the Abruzzo musician's sound growing more essential and increasingly crepuscular, shaping personal dreamlike landscapes. Emotional places defined by an alternation of downtempo patterns and ambient digressions, inspired by the corners of Bologna – his adopted city – and the ferment of multicultural London. Frictionless intersections that make room for samples of acoustic instruments, interview excerpts, field recordings and reworked YouTube fragments, sketching out immersive hypnagogic drifts.
The first taste of this compositional mechanism comes from the alluring pace of "Subway Surfer", with Whitney Houston's words and fragments of Adele's "Set Fire To The Rain" woven into its fabric. An enticing opening followed by an equally self-satisfied "All I Long For", a microhouse track built on a sample of a version of "Fly Me To The Moon" found online. The English capital's voice resurfaces in the intricate weave of the title track, then emerges again amid the urban vapours of "Day Eleven".
From here on, the dancefloor spirit fades, making way for more crepuscular textures, between guitar frequencies subjected to granular synthesis ("Soundtrack4u") and new-soul temptations ("Nobody Nobody"), before closing with the hypnotic "Darksand", which disturbs and manipulates a snippet of her majesty Madonna's "What It Feels Like For A Girl". It's all held together impeccably, preserving the recognizability of an increasingly personal electronic vocabulary. A synthetic environment fit for dreaming.
