ROSENTHAL - Luna

dream pop, shoegaze

Pain is one of the most powerful raw materials available to human creativity. When suffering meets art, a genuine sonic alchemy is set in motion: torment is transformed into compositions that are dark, dreamlike and, ultimately, bearers of hope. This isn't a mere escape from reality, but a true cathartic journey, capable of guiding the listener through darkness and reconnecting them to the light.
The debut of Danish musician Rosenthal (aka Jeppe Kiel Revsbech) is a passage built on shoegaze guitar reverb and dream-pop, electronic instruments reaching for cosmic spaces, and moments of reflection that speak of goodbyes, of emotional fragility, but also of dreams.
"Luna" is an album that charts Rosenthal's evolution from DIY musician to songwriter backed by a solid supporting band; seven years of demos and second-guessing that only found their turning point when Revsbech (vocals, bass, guitar, synths) found in Kjaergaard (guitar) and Asker Bjork (drums) the right accomplices for this adventure.

Not necessarily groundbreaking, but sufficiently inspired, Rosenthal's debut moves adeptly between echoes of Cocteau Twins ("Afraid Of Stairs"), darkwave reverb in the vein of Cure ("Heart"), and dream-pop/shoegaze surges reminiscent of New Order ("Lashes"). Rather than playing it safe, though, the Danish musician draws on these stylistic references for a project with real personality: on "A Dream" he reinvents and reworks the aforementioned sonic material into a dreamlike track that alternates decisive sounds with suspended, fragmentary tones which, like a lullaby, invite rebirth.
This process of introspection creates an invisible thread linking the brief hiss of "Intermezzo" to the surprising reworking of one of the early singles, "Void", which in its new version becomes a hushed folk ballad complete with brushed drums and a minimal melody with strong poetic overtones.

With "Luna", Rosenthal evolves from a writer of dream-pop songs into the true architect of a record with a cohesive narrative structure. The songs form a mosaic of compelling suggestions, finding their perfect closing statement in the tangle of voices, synths and reversed sounds of "The Home Stretch".
