RAMON MORO - Saudade

2026 (Cassis)
ambient jazz, electroacoustic

Three years on from “Calima”, Ramon Moro returns with a new solo work that continues to explore the evocative possibilities of a compositional process grounded in timbral research free of sterile virtuosity. Trumpet, flugelhorn and analogue effects remain his tools of choice, just as the hybridisation of genres and heritages remains a constant of his sonic practice. The nod to the classical world and his fondness for contemporary genres of an entirely different lineage – dark-ambient, noir jazz, and even the black metal that played such a large part in his previous record – here merge with mythological and ethnic suggestions, setting off on a trajectory outside of time and beyond strict geographical boundaries.

The combination of instruments and muezzin chanting underpinning the evocative “Tatreez” is the most fascinating example of this approach, building a listening space in which melody, atmosphere and spirituality converge toward a single horizon of rare intensity. The dark intimacy of “See You Soon” – a track dedicated to his little dog Lola, his companion in adventures for an entire decade – carries the same incisiveness.
When the imagery turns to figures from Greek mythology, the sound becomes more rigorous, without giving up its mutability – the sudden shift in “Atena” is emblematic of this – while the Mexican undertones of “Calaca Negra” trace out a warm trajectory, charged with tension.

Many facets, diverse solutions for an enigmatic path that chooses experimentation and elegant songwriting to give shape to the deep sense of melancholy and nostalgia suggested by the title, finding perfect resonance in the cover photo portrait of Moro himself, taken by master photographer Guido Harari.
