MCLUSKY - I Sure Am Getting Sick Of This Bowling Alley

2026 (Ipecac)
noise, punk, rock

We never had any doubts about how unique Mclusky are, especially after their comeback following twenty years of silence. Riding the success of “The World Is Still Here And So Are We”, the Cardiff punk-rock band, ahead of their American tour, release a six-track mini-album for just 13 minutes and 40 seconds of pure adrenaline.

Mclusky's ever-surreal noise-rock seems to have found new life thanks to newcomer Damien Sayell, whose bass often drives the most furious, chaotic moments in the razor-sharp "I Know Computer" and the devastating "Fan Learning Difficulties", while also ready to underline Andy Falkous's ever-corrosive lyrics, as in the minimal punk-rap of "Hi! We're On Strike".

Cleverly subversive, "I Sure Am Getting Sick Of This Bowling Alley" is a concentrated dose of wild, jagged rock that doesn't deny the listener rousing refrains to sing along to endlessly, drawn from the best vintage punk ("As A Dad", "Spock Culture"), and above all doesn't suffer from the predictability and purely speculative nature of similar bands.

Mclusky are in better form than ever, and rest assured that when they decide to get truly serious ("That Was My Brain On Elves"), there will be no escape for anyone.
