LUCA GIUOCO - Il Giuoco di Gronge

2026 (Setola di maiale)
experimental

“Il Giuoco di Gronge” is the title and, at the same time, the pun that describes the collaboration between Luca Giuoco (ambient/experimental musician and author of the blog COLLETTIVOINCONSCIO) and Marcho Gronge (an extremely experimental musician, author of two projects under his own name). This new collaboration was conceived as a series of moves and countermoves between the two artists who, while making the album, responded to each other's compositions to create a paradoxical mix that allows the two musicians' souls to coexist.

While Luca Giuoco moves within an ambient sound torn apart by tectonic tremors, field recordings and glitches, Marcho Gronge crafts more ironic and unpredictable sonorities, with nonsense lyrics, no wave and Residents-style surrealism, as shown by the deliriously eccentric albums “Dolci ricordi” (2012) and “XXX Cremone gigante per soli adulti” (2013).

This “game” of call and response between the two ultimately produces an album cohesive enough to almost be considered a concept record: one long composition split into eleven experiments in mellotron, noise, glitch, sound-art clatter and field recordings. The opening track “Ritorno”, thanks to the automated voice of a train station announcement, conveys precisely the sense of a journey beginning, perhaps a return to something still unresolved.

Aphasic vocalizations (“Contemporaneo”), electronic lullabies (“Fossile”), noise passages (“Lattiginoso”) build a long path toward unexpectedly hypnotic melodies (“Gorgo”), torn open by cell-phone jingles that eventually swell into a long, dark, thoroughly unsettling ambient flow.

Beyond the already-mentioned “Gorgo”, the finest synthesis of the two musicians is undoubtedly “Alterego”, where Gronge's lo-fi delivery plunges us into a philosophical, reflective past now swept away by a violent, dehumanized modernity, summed up by noisy electronic beats. “Umanesimo” is the emotionally sturdiest moment, with synths building a crescendo of pathos adorned with background noise.

"Il Giuoco di Gronge" works as a dialogue between two different musicians, but at the same time as a passe-partout for an alternative worldview, where nonsense stops being nonsense and becomes the only language still worth believing in.
