PAVEL MILYAKOV - Heal

2025 (Psy x)
ambient

In the freezing Russia of the 2010s, Pavel Milyakov took his first steps in Moscow's clubs under the alias Buttechno: sparse rhythmic elements, misty landscapes, an essential electronics performing solitary dances within the walls of an apartment. His frequent forays into every possible ecosystem, from post-industrial to ambient, reveal his true nature: more than genre, it's the idea of raw, unresolved sound that guides his quest, the grammar through which he expresses his own melancholy.

New Year's Day 2025 sees the release of "Heal", a collaboration with English painter Lucas Dupuy. It's the meeting of two reserved souls, two intimate but defenseless gazes revealing their essence through an ethereal weave: underwater meditations, granular percussion ("Room"), or the evocation of a crystalline afternoon by the river, amid birdsong and flowing water recorded in Japan, and the awakening of evanescent chords ("Path"). The six tracks, assembled in part with custom software, stretch across fifty-one minutes. It's as if Buttechno had made peace with his own shadows, perhaps also thanks to this new artistic partnership.

The album offers itself as a refuge for anyone worn down by everyday horror in search of an escape route. Not through totemic dancing over obsessive, claustrophobic rhythms, but through access to an everyday life steeped in gentleness and stillness ("End"). A constant vibration, even when it translates into hollow percussive tolls reminiscent of Steve Roach ("Deep Gtr"): new age glimmers stripped of hippy rhetoric and reshaped into the most recent ambient dub ("Air X"), as if Takashi Kokubo were meeting Andrew Chalk ("Flutes Of Doom"). In the muffled language of these two artists, something sincere surfaces and remains.
