ELEKTRO GUZZI - Liquid Center

2025 (Palazzo)
analog techno

The trait that has always set apart the sound design generated by Viennese outfit Elektro Guzzi, who with “Liquid Center” have reached the remarkable milestone of their eleventh album, is their choice to play techno music with guitar, bass and drums. While this option is already commendable in itself for its message aimed at breaking down barriers between musical genres, what strikes even more is the quality of the material produced.

Combining the propulsive groove of techno music with the electric physicality of rock, Elektro Guzzi achieve surprising results, like the hypnotic "Amorphea", a song with lysergic undertones that lands somewhere near Goat, an unmistakably psych approach also confirmed by the sonic spirals of the following "Bodies Of Water", in which the trio works in some kraut coordinates.

"Outer Core" changes register completely, a sort of improvisational jam with a vaguely jazzy structure that incorporates electro beats and dissonant elements: at nearly eight minutes, it's also the longest track on the record.

As it unfolds, "Liquid Center" often drifts into ambient territory (the reverb-drenched guitars of "Radiant", the dub gait of "Solar", the meditative "Cuore morbido" placed at the end of the tracklist) but is always ready to pull the listener back onto the dancefloor, whether through the accelerated dub of "Litosphere" or the energy of "Slipstream", right up to the most exhilarating episode, "Wear The White Belt", the true beating heart of the project, a nu-rave apotheosis with clear Balearic instincts. Music for open minds, crafted by enlightened artists capable of building a coherent journey, free of any constraint, summed up in a formula that has become a blueprint for others.
