BLOOD ABSCISSION - II

2025 (Debemur morti)
atmospheric black metal

The EP "I" (2023) already proved that these mysterious Blood Abscission, about whom it's not easy to find information, can earn a place in the black-metal landscape by balancing melody and fury, lo-fi production and refined melodies and arrangements. Atmospheric and impressionistic, melodic and ferocious, those five debut tracks evoked Ulver, Emperor and Agalloch, adding a subtler nod to the cosmic dimension of projects like Darkspace. This "II", with five tracks rigorously numbered in sequence, presents itself as more heterogeneous and ambitious.

Swept along by the guitars in the fast, bestial "II - I", later lit up by pads and adorned with a melancholic melody, one is nonetheless left stunned by the impressive twist of the seventh minute and by the dramatic structure that, in the final minutes, unites the epic and the tragic, the majestic and the ferocious. These are a generous 12 minutes that perfectly introduce a debut album working to perfect, in creative terms, the formula already heard on "I", blurring even further the boundaries between the various shades of black-metal and showing a substantial shift in the density of the compositions, now small symphonies that transform organically.

If gothic lyricism dominates the second, shorter track, "II - III" finds in its 10 minutes the time to build a small suite, moving elastically between tension and release, vertiginous ascents and melancholic melodies.

The solemn march of the fourth track, more atmospheric and without vocals, leads into the final 8 minutes: a tragic dance of desperate melodies and lacerating screams, symphonic elevations and tragic falls back into the abyss. In the fifth minute a dissonant guitar crowns the climax, suggesting a parallel with the majestic compositions of Deathspell Omega.

No information on the band, not even the country of origin or the number of members. A few lines of introduction, with a philosophical and poetic bent, and little else. "II" targets curious listeners, those who look beneath the surface. It uses a language known to the initiated, like "I", but with more boldness. One of the black-metal albums of the year, probably.
