ANTIKATECHON - Echoes from the Aureate Heavens

Three years after the previous “Sublime Ascension”, Davide Del Col releases the new album of his project Antikatechon, “Echoes From The Aureate Heavens”, once again for the Polish label Heerwegen Tod Production.

The opening is spine-chilling, with the first sounds of “Towards Zero” literally able to transport you into another dimension: a dark loop, charged with mystery, immediately envelops the event horizon, while a distant female voice, followed by the inevitable haze of electric guitars, carries everything along in a crescendo that drags the listener into the depths of darkness. The sound is rich in detail and wraps the listener in soundscapes that are at times austere, at times sweet and luminous. This is precisely the main novelty of an album that seems to mark a turning point in the decade-long career of the Milanese musician: the increasingly prominent introduction of layers of electronics that resolve the familiar rides through shadow into oases of light. As in the infernal battle of “Die Offenbarungsmaschine”, which halfway through opens up into a blinding melody worthy of the most romantic In The Nursery.

There's no shortage of otherworldly visions with references to Greek epic poetry, as in the stellar ambient of “Praying Maidens Before The Fountains Of Ichor”, among the most melodic and visceral tracks in the Milanese musician's entire career.

A very long closing track with the eponymous, nearly twenty-minute austere ride “Echoes From The Aureate Heavens”.
