Juri Panizzi is a composer who doesn't fall in line, with a long stint in the Monocrom behind him, a studio record made with Walden and a collaboration with the Meditation Quartet, a Roman radical improvisation quartet. “Estetica” marks his personal solo debut, almost entirely composed and played on his instrument of choice, the guitar, both electric and acoustic.
Guitars controlled in real time during performances, bolstered by a substantial arsenal of effects, loops and samples. It is entirely instrumental music, with ambient connotations, but decisively contaminated by rock, jazz and avant-garde drifts. Concrete music, visions of open spaces, bow and slide, sound waves that move, swinging between left and right, with the occasional hint of synth.
Some non-standard tunings lend further colour to the four tracks, long and well structured, ideal for entering the world of the guitarist from Lazio. Everything is the work of Juri, except for the piano that enters at the end of the closing “Cut”, played by Andrea Pettinelli of Berlin's Zoo, who also handled the artistic production of the entire record. First time out, and it shows!
