BEWIDER - Full Panorama

2018 (Folk wisdom)
electronic

Launched in 2013 by producer and film and TV composer Piernicola Di Muro, BeWider arrives with his first full-length work carrying a stack of positive reviews that can only raise hopes among any lover of electronic music. An intimate and moving record, it captures across the twelve tracks the moment of creative transformation its author has undergone, translating into music his soul tied to cinema, as mentioned above, but also the deeper part of himself, rooted in personal emotional experience.

The electronics of “Full Panorama” are certainly bound to the world of cinema, structured as an ideal soundtrack that almost winks at the scores of Andrey Tarkovsky or at Atticus Ross's work with Trent Reznor on “The Social Network“. But it is also more than that, with its ambient pauses in the vein of the nineties Aphex Twin or the newer-millennium Ulver, and if we dare a comparison beyond the obvious, Jon Hopkins and Nicolas Jaar come to mind.

At certain moments BeWider even becomes more linear, almost danceable and direct, like Primal Scream of “XTRMNTR” stripped of their rock component.

The greatness and the great beauty of this “Full Panorama” lies not only in this but in its ability to use a sound with a faintly nostalgic flavour in a way that creates a modern product, appreciated by the older enthusiasts just as much as by the newcomers approaching the style. Yet “Full Panorama” has every credential to win a satisfying listen even from those little familiar with the genre.

A debut full-length is often considered the most idea-packed but also the rawest and least mature; this time we must claim the exact opposite. Few manage to show such maturity and self-awareness on the first try (though it isn't really a first, considering the EPs), and BeWider, with this album, demonstrates the full worth of the Italian electronic scene.

“Full Panorama” is electronic music to be listened to with eyes closed, poetry in music forged to take you away for an hour from real life, which is only a reverberation of the dreams of poets.
