ANDREA TICH - Parlerò dentro te

2018 (I dischi di plastica)
songwriter

I can do whatever I want

It’s my record

And yours too

(Andrea Tich)

Four years after the generous concept album "A comet of blood", Andrea Tich returns to the lectern with a less convoluted, less "irrational" record, once again released under the name Andrea Tich e Le Strane Canzoni. "Parlerò dentro te" is a bold, concise, pulsing, brazen, retro, even extroverted album. Tich is a craftsman of Italian song. A talent confined to the underground because he's always been out of step with the times, with any possible hype; a free-roaming spirit with a heart ablaze, a keen observer of reality and everyday life, of the small things worth highlighting through a singular, engaging kind of songwriting. It's worth remembering that we're dealing with an exceedingly seasoned musician here. His debut album, "Masturbati", came out in 1978, produced by Claudio Rocchi and released by none other than the legendary Cramps label.

Tich thus belongs to that category of purest talents in Italian song who, for one reason or another, remain perpetually out at sea, never landing on shores of convenience. Free spirits who love to reinvent themselves with every release, who dare at all costs and perhaps challenge the waves of fate, letting their own musical self remain, always and forever, the only compass worth trusting.

For the occasion, the seasoned singer-songwriter from Augusta - now based in Milan - rows straight toward an atoll of scattered thoughts, unresolved loves, distant memories, fleeting contradictions. Tich's vision is rich in detail. A gaze that draws its lifeblood from a deep sensitivity, amid "bonds fallen into the void" ("La mia pace, la tua guerra"), "capsized boats" and "knees chilled with secrets never revealed" ("Eclisse 1°/2°/3°"). But "Parlerò dentro te" is above all a tribute to its author's own musical history, a kaleidoscope of stylistic suggestions drawn from his past, from a vast musical culture, and from a continuous evolution.

Backing him up is a formidable band of musicians including - among others - Claudio Panarello (percussion) and Agostino Macor (synth), joined at times by the voices of Sonia Mazzotta and Ruben Camillas (I Camillas). Tich blends different moods, ranging from the synthetic gait of "Otto comandamenti" to a flower-power-flavored ballad like "Sulle cose", with its delicate snapshots and a slow, soothing, reassuring pace.

Questo gioco eccessivo ermetico è un sigillo al cuore

Su di me, sulle cose

A hyperbole of ice and light that never warms

Tich plunges into his torments while at the same time showcasing his own verve, his free spirit, in more sinuous acoustic trots, as in "I sensi". There's also room for issues that grip music critics, such as the eternal dispute over prog and whether it's right to lump in bands that, after all, didn't really use odd time signatures, like Pink Floyd. The debate is even sampled, complete with the voice of music critic Piergiorgio Pardo, in the introduction to "psichedelcapire". In "Denti smaglianti" his love for acid-folk resurfaces, along with the soft fascinations of the never-forgotten Seventies, complete with an exotic rhythm section, vaguely psychedelic in its slow flow. A sweet song, closing with Daniele Cavallanti's sultry sax.

"Parlerò dentro te" is a thoroughly respectable comeback. A meticulously crafted work, instantly recognizable amid today's whirlwind of nonstop releases.
