GIULIO ALDINUCCI - Goccia

2016 (Home normal)
ambient, field recording

Giulio Aldinucci's 2016 had already begun with a collaboration with Francesco Giannico on the little field-recording gem “Agoraphonia“. In the second half of the year comes the new “Goccia”, an LP that continues the path into contemporary electronics the artist began with his previous works “Tarsia” (2012), “Aer” (2014) and “Spazio Sacro” (2015).

Giulio Aldinucci is by now a master of synthetic loops, of the search for fluid, ethereal electronic timbres, of notes charged with suggestion that wash over the listener like wind on skin. This time field recordings are less present, with timbral exploration and electronics taking the upper hand. “Goccia” moves with a new energy and vigor compared to Aldinucci's previous discography, without losing a certain sense of the magical and the elusive; the imposing sonic cathedrals he recreates don't fill spaces the way ambient music is supposed to, nor do they capture their sound the way the previous “Agoraphonia” did, but rather seem to loom over them, sweeping them away.

The sheer scale of the opening “The Rule Of Forgetting” is striking – a monolithic nod to the poetics of composer Rafael Anton Irisarri – enriched by vocal layers that heighten its solemnity. The recordings on “Los Ojos De” recall industrial music and stand as the best example of a tension bordering on horror, built note after note, noise after noise.

The voice takes center stage on “Rondine”, the soundtrack to unknown rituals; “Apart” is a stretched-out flow that perfectly blends field recordings and electronics. “Candles (Tuscany, Spring)” closes things out with greater serenity, leaving behind the earlier harshness; the Tuscan countryside, Aldinucci's native land, is the safe place of homecoming.
