As the press-sheet rightly points out, this seven-inch marks something of a shift for Control Unit. The no wave structures tinged with post-industrial and improvisation of their previous work are replaced here by more angular noise-rock geometries, though (thankfully) the atmosphere remains thoroughly skewed. All three tracks are very good, though “Body Language” has an extra gear, with its dark riff that's almost a rumble, over which Kastel's heroin-addled wail unfolds.
With this release Control Unit prove, if proof were still needed, that they excel not only at improvisation but also at songwriting. And at this point, given the shift underway, we're eagerly awaiting their next full-length.
