Decimo albo lungo esclusi i lavori con i suoi Sugar e i capolavori con gli Husker Du, successore in copia carbone di “Silver Age”, “Beauty & Ruin” dell’ultracinquantenne Bob Mould contiene ancora uno dei suoi sermoni nella vena di Neil Young, “Low Season”, grave e a sprazzi terribile, e un paio di fitte scattanti che diffondono ancora la giusta potenza e l’alta classe del grande mestierante punk (“Kid With Crowded Face” e “Little Grass Pill”, mentre “Tomorrow Morning” e “Fix It” mettono un po’ tristezza).

Non basta la consueta magnificenza della sua chitarra a redimere i power-pop vieppiù formali che danno il grosso dell’albo come “Nemeses Are Laughing”, “I Don’t Know You Anymore” (anche singolo e video), “The War”, la Rem-iana “Fire In The City”. Essenza del tipico stile ormai slavato e ben portato della tarda carriera.
