Amid tribal shards ("So Far From Here") and chewed-up, Vernon-esque riffs ("By This"), "Turbines" betrays an ever more prevalent psych streak, a dark maturity of sound that doesn't, however, carry through into the songwriting, where it's hard to tell inspired refinement from flagging inspiration ("Embers", the trip-hop nursery rhyme of "Trip Trap").
