ALBEDO - Lezioni di anatomia

2013 (V4v records)
alt-rock, songwriting

We were among the first in Italy to champion Albedo, back when they were still a largely local phenomenon, and today it's a pleasure to see how steadily they've grown in depth.

Pointed our way by mutual friends from Milan, we loved the mix of guitars and melodies on their debut "Il male", a kind of concept record on the trials of everyday life, caught between precarious work, concrete, the power of mass media, tangled relationships and the longing to be elsewhere.

Then came the welcome confirmation of "Home", a record that smoothed out the rough edges and leaned into more intimate territory.

Just one year later, Albedo take a decisive step forward in quality, unveiling their finest work yet.

"Lezioni di anatomia" is a journey through the organs of our body, which give their names to, and inspire, each of the nine tracks on the tracklist.

Our organs speak to us, telling us about their own sensations, explaining to us more clearly how we function.

Our everyday existence as narrated by those who live it alongside us at every moment: the emotions, feelings and episodes of daily life observed and told from a unique, singular perspective.

Between sonic onslaughts ("Stomaco", the opening of the initial "Cuore"), electro interludes ("Pance", "Occhi") and brilliant ballads ("Dita", "Schiena" played on piano), moments of delightful poetry stand out, establishing Raniero Federico Neri as a sensitive, personal songwriter.

Alongside him are Luca Padalino on guitars, Gabriele Sainaghi on bass and Ruggiero Murray on drums.

Particularly interesting are a few instrumental codas ("Fegato", "Gambe", and the aforementioned "Dita"), which highlight the quartet's great artistic skill as they bring the proverbial fateful third album safely into port.
