Prolific label AF Music releases this three-track EP, the vinyl debut of a band that's been active for just over a year but already has very clear ideas about its musical direction: fast rock 'n' roll tinged with darkness.
In the land of Albion, anyone playing a certain brand of gothic rock is definitely playing on home turf, with a wealth of predecessors behind them, above all the genre's forefathers Sisters Of Mercy and Mission. That sound is clearly the starting point for Terminal Gods: the influence of the above-mentioned bands is undeniable. That said, it would be wrong to label the quartet's work as mere "copy and paste": the goth on display across the three tracks of "Electric Eyes" travels with the accelerator pressed to the floor, driven by an unstoppable drum machine, and reinterprets Sisters Of Mercy through the lens of punk urgency, in a spirit not unlike that of Italy's own Horror Vacui.
The record's production brings out its obsessive rhythms, and the electricity radiating from the grooves recalls the excellent debut by fellow countrymen Ulterior; if you enjoyed the more aggressive side of that band, don't let this little dark gem slip by.
