PRURIENT - Tiger Smells a Corpse

2012 (Hospital productions)
harsh noise

The last work by Prurient worthy of attention, “And Still, Wanting”, now dates back almost five years. Since then, our man has done nothing but disappoint expectations, releasing works that are more than dispensable, if not downright mediocre. Unfortunately, even this triple cassette, which collects over an hour and a half of music, fails to turn things around for the American musician, once again grappling with a declension of harsh noise that mostly conveys its own gratuitousness.

Between the rough expressionism of “Different Ways of Seeing”, the dronic climaxes of “Awaiting Execution”, the post-industrial degenerations of “Dungeon at Seringapatam” and the lava-like torments of “Males Had Themselves Painted And Photographed With Their Feet Firmly Planted On The Skin Or The Carcass Of A Dead Tiger”, it's genuinely hard to find anything to hold on to, in order not to let this umpteenth release fade into oblivion…
