2011 (Profound Lore)
brutal harsh-noise

The "Opening" is certainly not what you'd call an inviting calling card, a sinister furnace of blunt noise. And yet it's fairly digestible stuff, at least compared to the terrifying slaughter of "SOL", where a zombie tries to sing against an impenetrable web of harsh-noise, slowly bleeding itself dry through shrieks and screams. Spine-chilling material, even for those already used to the darkest atrocities of these sonic terrorists from Saskatchewan, in western Canada.

Those six-odd minutes are also enough to decisively distance the record from the previous, mediocre “Working Together For Our Privacy“, which is outdone on its own turf too by “Free Goat Of Leviticus”, more or less anchored to the same monstrous idea of a sound from beyond the grave manipulated by a coven of brain-dead killers, elsewhere capable of inhuman things like “Dragon Owl Didacticism”. This is the music Satan listens to in the morning while doing housework, after dropping his offspring off at the nursery school minibus. It's so repulsive and lo-fi that it's almost endearing, without quite managing it, because Evil has no time for compassion. Low fidelity as a synonym for psychic devastation, mental ruin, disgust for an abnormal, incomprehensible world bent on self-destruction.

Unfortunately, the second part (where their percussive side emerges) is less interesting, but the horror unleashed by those first five tracks manages, for once, to make up for the occasional yawn.
