Francesco "Nongio" Mandelli, legendary MTV vj and creator of the hit sketch series "I soliti idioti", teams up with Chicco Buttafuoco to form the duo Orange, now on their second outing with "Rock Your Moccasins". But despite the fame that precedes him, you'd do well not to expect surreal, irreverent songs in the style of Skiantos: when it's time to plug in the amps, Mandelli goes for pure, straightforward rock'n'roll, or rather a modern, thoroughly road-tested brand of indie-punk party music. Lyrics are strictly in English (with the sole exception of the closing track), despite their deliberate shallowness - confirming the worst stereotype that plagues the Italian underground scene. A handful of chords shuffled around half-heartedly, classic rhythms with never a flash of personality: "Rock Your Moccasins" is a collection of songs built on the most shameless catchiness; the ten tracks, totalling 35 minutes, seem mostly intent on teasing a very young audience into showing up at one of the many tour dates. Mandelli can certainly lean on his "celebrity" charisma and boast of this album's international pedigree - mastered in London by John Davis (U2, White Lies) - but musically speaking, we're close to ground zero of creativity.
