È battezzato dalla Strut il ritorno del leggendario August Darnell, in arte Kid Creole. Ad accompagnarlo le sempre conturbanti Coconuts e un collaboratore/ammiratore d'eccezione come Andy Butler degli Hercules & Love Affair, che produce e dà manforte anche in sede compositiva. Nel nuovo "I Wake Up Screaming" (che giunge a ben dieci anni da "Too Cool To Conga!") il cantante newyorchese ripropone il consueto e irriverente melange di musiche caraibiche, swing gangsteristico e teatro di rivista anni Cinquanta. Non viene peraltro meno l'indole burlesca così come un certo gusto per ritmi caldi e sempre ballabili, in un carosello di canzonette in bilico tra capriccio decorativo e parodia beffarda.

Tra i momenti più godibili segnaliamo "Somebody's Got Lose" e la sensuosa "Verily Verily Verily". Nonostante una temperie culturale forse troppo lontana dai fasti new-pop degli anni Ottanta, il lavoro risulta comunque apprezzabile, curato e tutt'altro che inattuale.
