INADE - Antimimon Pneumatos

2011 (Loki foundation)
dark-ambient

As a corollary to two glorious decades in which Inade have effectively picked up the mantle of dark-ambient deity Brian Williams, aka Lustmord, establishing themselves as a reference point for the global scene both as a band and as a record label, comes this box set limited to 300 hand-numbered copies, including a digipack, a t-shirt, and 3 illustrated cards.

Inade are the main vehicle for René Lehmann & Knut Enderlein, founders of the Loki Foundation label, a band that embodies the hermetic-mythological face of the two Germans, who in parallel run numerous other projects, chief among them the joint and most uncompromising one, called "Ex.Order", while Knut is also part of the downtempo/ambient outfit Fjernlys, alongside the lesser-known Johannes Riedel (of the band Circular, also signed to Loki) and CKS.

Over the years Inade have profoundly evolved their sound, moving from a deep-space-focused ambient/industrial style - of which "Colliding Dimensions" was the absolute peak, both musically and visually - to a far more personal vision of dark-ambient music.

The album in question collects the high points of the band's main concerts held between 2009 and 2010 in Paris, Moscow, Turku in Finland, Leipzig and Wuppertal in Germany. Here one finds what will most likely constitute the seed of the future - and given the duo's remarkable prolificacy, probably imminent - release from the German pair.

Standing out above all are certainly the opener "Trascendent Absolute", which transports us without further ado into an arcane atmosphere recalling the work of fellow countrymen Herbst9, "Conquer Time", in which war drums alternate with dark drones and menacing, cadenced voices, and finally "The Memorizated Magnified", here too streaked with slow, inexorable repeated tones almost like the motions of a revolution around planetary centers of mass, and echoes that project us into dark, solemn space.

Breaking up these dense, dark atmospheres are the tracks taken from the latest work, "The Incarnation Of The Solar Architects", fully in the layered downtempo/ambient style. Almost none of the tracks come from earlier works, a further testament to the constant evolutionary drive felt throughout the album, in which the very same tracks already appear transfigured compared to their recent studio versions.

Needless to say, the level of the individual musical suites is truly outstanding and perfectly fused with the hermetic themes on offer. Themes that rain down from every direction - just look at the alchemical motto par excellence, "Visita Interiora Terrae Rectificando Invenies Occultum Lapidem", i.e. V.I.T.R.I.O.L., on the cover of the box, the CD and the t-shirt.

Even the two cards mentioned above bear two inscriptions that, in their own way, point in the same direction: on one hand "Study and research or you will be lost" and on the other "Bring forth the true science", that is, of course, alchemy.

Unsurpassable.
