A new EP from Glassjaw, a band devoted to a post-hardcore sound with progressive leanings. Fronted by Daryl Palumbo, the band has built up a solid following on the American scene (they're from New York), and this “Our Color Green” (a collection of five tracks) keeps the spotlight on musicians grappling here with material that isn't exactly thrilling, but is nonetheless visceral and never predictable. Not just the vocal lines, but also a whole series of instrumental detours (contained, though, and so never overbearing) owe more than a little to Mars Volta, starting with “All Good Junkies Go To Heaven” and continuing through the constant branching of “Jesus Glue” and the more melodic “Natural Born Farmer” (a track dating back to 2003 and played live on several occasions) and “You Think You're (John Fucking Lennon)”. A more dramatic mood takes hold instead on “Stars” (a reworking of “Star Above My Bed”, which appeared on the '97 EP “Kiss Kiss Bang Bang”), continually rocked by explosive distortion and feral screams.
Meanwhile, the new album, “GlassJAw!”, is slated for release in February.
