"The Red Giant Meets The White Dwarf" is part of a live recording from 2008, put together by Chapter 24 and Philippe Petit to celebrate both of their 25 years in music. Chapter 24 is a piece by Pink Floyd, and it is precisely in the sign of their sickly visionary streak that the album's forty-odd minutes unfold. The nine electroacoustic suites live, in fact, on a surrealist depiction of the cosmos, evidently imagined as a place inhabited by unstable planets, in the vein of Carpenter's Dark Star, and dying stars. A dark but fascinating odyssey, in its ability to envelop the listener in a vortex of hallucinations moving between a real dimension and a filmic, imaginative one.
