Second album from the singer-songwriter from Bergamo, Andrea Casali, aka Caso. On offer here is an emotional country-folk, aiming to immerse the listener in a series of the author's streams of consciousness, describing situations and states of mind with a firm tone, elusive vocal melodies and a minimal accompaniment, made up of little more than a sturdy-sounding acoustic guitar and, occasionally, other splashes of colour like harmonica.
Caso avoids sticking too rigidly to the rules of metre, and his songs don't follow a verse-chorus structure; everything is arranged in a way that conveys a sense of genuineness without ever stepping out of line. “Che sia musica di nicchia o di merda, l’importante è che sia onesta”, Caso sings in a key passage of the album, and his approach undeniably lands with the right impact. The problem is that, in the name of keeping expectations low, the songs never tip over into artifice, but nor do they ever rise to a level that stirs any deep emotion. It's a record, then, that doesn't deserve to be dismissed, but one that will hardly offer anything significant to those who approach it.
