Already the author of a notable self-titled debut on Wallace, the Sardinian combo Plasma Expander (with a line-up in the style of a power trio, made up of Fabio Cerina, Andrea Siddu and Marcello Pisanu, now stable) attempts, with their second album “Kimidanzeigen”, to capitalize on the claustrophobic sound of their first record.
Bursts of icily precise post-hardcore in the style of Don Caballero run through “Hands In The Guts” (with hints of minimalism) and the manic variations of “No Moustache”, but things feel off when the band veers into acid-rock, however boldly illogical it may be (“Why Not” and “Horny M.”, and even a pseudo-Appalachian dance, “Nose On Belly”). “Sananas” is the only experimental track, a cross between a puzzle of amorphous sounds, an epileptic polyrhythm reverberated by the guitars, and a voodoobilly progression.
Locked into the cages of genres and subgenres, this short record stumbles by showing off its muscles and supergroup poses, and fails to spice up its improvisation. A massive co-production that confirms the convergence (a passing of the torch?) between Bloody Sound Fucktory and Wallace.
