MARK MCGUIRE - Living With Yourself

2010 (Editions mego)
avant-garde, instrumental

Alongside “Tidings/Amethyst Waves” and “Off In The Distance”, 2010 for Mark McGuire, already guitarist of Emeralds, is rounded out by “Living With Yourself”, a collection of pièces woven from electric and acoustic guitar tapestries and “acousmatic” elements such as field recordings (best showcased on “The Vast Structure Of Recollection”), shoegaze backdrops, watery fingerpicking loops à la Dustin Wong (“Brain Storm”, “Two Different People”), right up to tapping – without much originality – into the worlds of John Fahey and Mogwai (“Brothers”). A kind of new age for the neo-emocore era, useful above all for the composer himself. Samples recorded between '91 and '98.
