Four tracks, four features: this is how the ghost makes its return. Out of these 2-step skeletons, distilled down to pure abstraction and dark sound. El-B knows the power of low frequencies, knows how to build hypnosis out of a bottomless jungle line, and how to induce shivers by playing with acid, dirty, hammering sound. But he never overdoes it, because essentiality is his first ally: maximum impact from minimum clutter.
Emptiness and torpor. The pace is heavy, murky, brutal – Milanese would be pleased. But El-B, masterful as ever, doesn't stop at cruelty: in "Dirty Flow" he hides sinuous arabesques à la Timbaland, in "Dirty Dirty" he shreds the groove into high frequencies, in "This Thrill" he fuses Burial and broken beat. Every track is a surprise. Let yourself be surprised.
