The result of a supersession between Andrea Ferraris (already with Airchamber, Deep End and Ur), Eugenio Maggi (with a prolific multimedia electronic career to his name) and Gianmaria Aprile (already at the helm of the valuable Fratto9), "Like Little Garrisons Besieged", released under the name Luminance Ratio, is a collection of improvised electroacoustic tableaux.
The title track, with its confluence of turbulent patterns and post-folk acoustic arpeggios, is the most enjoyable piece, while the concrete timbral effects that give rise to the piercing drones of "Sullepalledellepietre" justify the "luminance" of the name. "Sunday Is Grey" is an electronic "wind" of chirping, bells and atonal strings. In the last three tracks, the trick behind the naiveté becomes apparent.
Three musicians and an arsenal of sound sources, for results that don't live up to such abundance. One (thin) idea per track, developed in a turgid, laboured way. The risk: it comes across as a symptom of a new new age for new "deep" listeners, with all the distortions and excesses that entails.
