Far from the mediocre drone-noise of VipCancro, Andrea Borghi proves to have decent skills when it comes to manipulating noise sources. On this self-titled EP, he grapples with a tumultuous magma of digital vibrations, subliminal hums and controlled distortions, a triptych well summarized in the opening infernal circle of "Medulla".
The murky tones, tremulous echoes and a creeping tension instead push "forC" towards an example of pulverized dark-ambient left to hover in a pneumatic void, while, for its part, "Straiform" dredges up the urban nightmares of the "death factory".
There's nothing so striking here, to be clear; but the thoughtful skill with which the various sound sources are shaped elevates Borghi above the average of the countless noise adventurers who keep scowling at mainstream aficionados.
On the other hand, faced with the underwater industrial of "Attrazioni #2" and, above all, the nine minutes of "Stratiform #2" (a disturbing gaseous paranoia, a post-atomic graveyard where the dead simply cannot resign themselves to no longer being, to being merely a faded memory), those same listeners would flee in disgust, eyes full of fear.
