Typical postcards from the United States. Imagine living in America, the wide open spaces, a place immersed in nature (in this case up in Vermont), the perfect refuge for hippies at heart like Matt Valentine (MV) and Erika Elder (EE).

Places to park your beat-up trailer, keep a stray dog, and in the evening call a few friends over (the Bummer Road) to strum some country-blues under the stars. Maybe spiking it with a bit of acid. Sprawling out on the ground, a hat on your head and a piece of straw in your mouth, working through numbers by Mississippi John Hurt, Charlie Patton or Rev. Gary Davis. Playing them over and over, perhaps waiting for the additives to kick in, until what comes out are either new songs (the first CD) or reworkings quite different from the originals (the second).

You're in good company, the relaxed atmosphere is that of campfire songs, the dog barks every now and then, you play around with delay, pedals and various effects, rice and bean cans are used as percussion, maybe someone blows into a harmonica, and so, almost without noticing, you end up with twenty minutes of "Death Don't Have No Mercy" recorded on tape.

Having said that the album is excellent, it must also be said that a certain fondness for the aforementioned weird-rural imagery is required, otherwise an hour and a half of such hippie business could prove hard to digest.
