MUBI will exclusively release in autumn 2026 the documentary "PULP: What Do You Do For An Encore?", a new film directed by Garth Jennings and dedicated to the story of Pulp.
Following in the footsteps of great concert films like "Stop Making Sense" and "The Last Waltz", the director of "Sing" and "The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy" delivers a 90-minute documentary that traces the rise of Pulp, from cult act on the British scene to major cultural phenomenon.
The film alternates footage from the biggest arena show the band has ever played, recorded during the world tour for "More" — the album that marked the group's return to recording after twenty-four years — with a vast selection of previously unseen archival material gathered over four decades of activity.
The narration is led by frontman Jarvis Cocker's voice, while the soundtrack features twenty songs, mixing classics from the band's catalogue with lesser-known tracks. The result is a portrait of the Sheffield group that attempts to answer the question posed by the title: "So, what do you do for an encore?".
The documentary celebrates the journey of a band that managed to combine irony, a nonconformist spirit and social observation, leaving a deep mark on British pop culture.
"PULP: What Do You Do For An Encore?" is a MUBI production directed by Jennings and edited by Barney Pilling, who previously worked on "Grand Budapest Hotel" and "Mrs. Harris Goes To Paris". Producers include Octavia Peissel, Danny Gabai, Amy Rattray and Paul Dugdale, while executive producers include Jarvis Cocker himself and Jeanette Lee.
