From the archives of Prince, a new chapter from his immense musical legacy. On August 28, “Timeless” will be released, a posthumous album created by The Prince Estate in collaboration with Legacy Recordings and Sony Music. The record brings together ten rare and previously unreleased recordings, selected from between 1977 and 2016, with the aim of offering an overview of the Minneapolis musician's entire artistic journey. It's the first release ever conceived to span all the major phases of Prince's career, from his earliest sessions as a teenager to his final years of activity. The result is a sonic narrative that highlights the continuity of his creative pursuit across almost four decades.
“Timeless” will be available digitally, on black vinyl and on CD. A limited purple marble vinyl edition is also planned, distributed exclusively through the official Sony Music store. Alongside the announcement, dedicated initiatives for collectors were also unveiled, with exclusive merchandise available through Paisley Park and Prince.com, including items made for Prince Celebration 2026.
Accompanying the news is the single “Stone”, recorded in the spring of 1995 and written by Sandra St. Victor, Tom Hammer and Jules Van Even. The track offers the first taste of the material featured on the collection (listen below).
The album will be at the center of Prince Celebration 2026, scheduled from June 3 to 7 between Paisley Park and Minneapolis. The event will feature dedicated listening sessions, presentations of archival material and meetings with the artist's longtime collaborators, giving fans privileged access to new discoveries from Prince's famed archive.
The 2026 edition of the event coincides with the tenth anniversary of Prince Celebration. To mark the occasion, Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey has proclaimed the period from June 1 to 7 “Prince Celebration Week”, recognizing the artist's pivotal role in the city's cultural history. On June 6, the Minneapolis skyline will also be lit up in purple as a tribute to the musician who helped make the city known around the world.
The release of “Timeless” was previewed on April 2 by “With This Tear”, released on the tenth anniversary of Prince's death. Recorded at Paisley Park in November 1991, the song finds the American artist handling every aspect of its creation: composition, arrangement, production and instrumental performance.
