Oasis keep dropping hints about their 2027 tour, and this time it's Rome's turn. A video set in the Italian capital has appeared on the band's official account, showing a Vespa cruising through the alleys of Trastevere at dusk with two girls on board: a fairly explicit reference to the city's place on the calendar for the upcoming tour.
For Italian fans it's yet another confirmation, though dates, presales and ticket-buying details will still take a while to be officially announced. For days now, the British press and several fan clubs have been pointing to two Oasis shows at Rome's Stadio Olimpico, pencilled in for 24 and 25 July 2027. Both dates have shown up in the provisional schedules doing the rounds in recent weeks, and the new clip seems to leave little doubt about the Rome date.
The first hints about the band's return to touring had come straight from the Gallagher brothers themselves. On 2 September, Noel Gallagher, a guest on "talkSport Drive", had joked about next summer's plans: "There's no football tournaments next year, so we've got to do something in the summer, haven't we?!"
Three days later, Liam Gallagher had gone even further. On the red carpet at the Venice Film Festival, where Oasis presented the documentary "Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger", when Adnkronos asked him whether Rome would feature in the 2027 tour, he simply replied: "Yes".
Meanwhile, the band has been fuelling anticipation by releasing a series of short videos containing clues about the cities set to host the shows. The one dedicated to Rome is the seventh. The first, set in a fish and chip shop with "Little By Little" playing in the background, had pointed to Glasgow and specifically Celtic Park. A second football-themed clip had instead suggested Manchester's Etihad Stadium. References to Munich, Barcelona and Amsterdam followed, then one dedicated to Paris. That Paris clip in particular contained a possible nod to one of the most traumatic episodes in Oasis's history. In the video, a man bites into a plum at a fruit stall, then furiously throws it away and spits out the stone. According to the British press, it's an allusion to the 28 August 2009 row that led to the band's split, right on the outskirts of Paris. That evening, shortly before their show at the Rock en Seine festival, Noel Gallagher left the group and publicly announced his departure. Oasis wouldn't reform until 2024, returning to the stage the following year.
According to rumours circulating so far, the 2027 tour should include a run of shows at Celtic Park in Glasgow between 22 and 29 May, a long stretch of dates at Manchester's Etihad Stadium between 4 and 27 June, and six nights at Knebworth between 4 and 19 September.
The provisional European schedule also points to the Stade de France in Paris on 3 and 4 July, the Allianz Arena in Munich on 10 and 11 July, and Rome's Stadio Olimpico on 24 and 25 July. In Ireland, several nights at Slane Castle are reportedly planned between 6 and 14 August, while other dates are expected to cover Amsterdam and Barcelona. Possible non-European stops also include Boston and Las Vegas.
The official announcement with the full schedule is still to come. But after Liam Gallagher's words and, above all, the new video with the Vespa and Trastevere, one thing now seems hard to dispute: Rome is on the bill for the Oasis 2027 tour.
