Madonna: watch the video for the short film "Confessions II – The Film" previewing the new album

Less than a month ahead of the release of "Confessions II", due out on 3 July, Madonna has unveiled a new piece of the project by posting "Confessions II – The Film" on her YouTube channel, a thirteen-minute musical short that accompanies and previews the new album. Directed by the duo Torso, made up of David Toro and Solomon Chase, the film premiered at the Tribeca Festival in New York and positions itself as an ideal continuation of "Confessions On A Dance Floor", the 2005 record that brought the "Like A Virgin" popstar back to the centre of the international dance scene.
More than just an extended music video, "Confessions II – The Film" builds a visual narrative that weaves together music, fashion and performance, offering an early glimpse into the aesthetic universe of the new record. The cast features figures from film, music and fashion, including Julia Garner, Gwendoline Christie, Kate Moss, Benedict Cumberbatch, Rupert Grint, Sabrina Carpenter and Lourdes Leon, the singer's daughter.

The short film incorporates six tracks from the new album, including the previously unheard "Good For The Soul", "One Step Away", "Read My Lips" and "Danceteria", the latter a tribute to the famed New York club that helped launch Madonna's career in the early Eighties. Moving between urban settings, natural landscapes and visually striking choreography, the film develops a futuristic aesthetic that echoes some of the most recurring themes in the artist's imagery. Costumes also play a central role, created by Dolce & Gabbana, partners in a collaboration that has lasted more than thirty years. The Italian fashion house provided both contemporary pieces and garments drawn from its historical archives. These include a stretch satin dress inspired by the Spring/Summer 1998 collection, a black minidress with lace and corsetry details, and a rhinestone-covered top taken from the Autumn/Winter 1991-1992 collection. The outfits thus become an integral part of the narrative, helping to create a dialogue between Madonna's iconography and the brand's stylistic identity.

During the presentation at the Tribeca Festival, the American singer reaffirmed her belief in the unifying power of dance music and in the ability of dance culture to create connections between people. "People think dance music is shallow, but they're dead wrong. The dancefloor isn't just a place, it's a threshold: a ritual space where movement replaces language", Madonna points out, quoting the opening lines of her song "One Step Away". She then adds: "When Stuart Price and I started working on this album, this was our manifesto: we have to dance, celebrate and pray with our bodies. These are things we've been doing for thousands of years: they're genuine spiritual practices. After all, the dancefloor is a ritual space. It's a place where you connect — with your own wounds, with your own fragility. Raving is an art form. It's about pushing past your own limits and connecting with a community of like-minded people. Sound, light and vibrations reshape our perceptions, pulling us into a trance-like state. We don't just hear the repetition of the bassline, we feel it. It alters our consciousness and dissolves ego and time."
Following the surprise concert that drew thousands of spectators to Times Square a few weeks ago for Pride, Madonna continues her build-up towards "Confessions II", one of the most anticipated albums of the summer.
