Led Zeppelin: the ranking of their best albums according to Far Out Magazine

08-10-2026

One of the greatest rock bands of all time, Led Zeppelin, formed by Jimmy Page, Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones, made some of the most important and influential albums in music history. But for anyone who hasn't yet had the chance to approach the founding fathers of hard rock and heavy metal, where's the best place to start? Starting from this question, Far Out Magazine tried to answer by putting together a ranking of all the band's studio albums, including the posthumous collection "Coda", ordered "from worst to best".
"Born in 1968 from the ashes of the Yardbirds, after Jimmy Page's visionary talent had pushed him to look for new partners in crime, Led Zeppelin took very little time to establish themselves on the music scene. Having recruited Robert Plant, John Bonham and John Paul Jones, the band adopted a name indirectly suggested by Keith Moon, drummer of the Who, who reckoned the new project would go down like a lead balloon. Signed to Atlantic Records, the four embarked on an intense run of live activity, helping to redefine the very concept of the rock concert. Their performances, increasingly spectacular and ambitious, would set new standards for generations to come, laying the groundwork for the great stadium and arena shows. After an initial growth phase, Led Zeppelin turned into a global phenomenon. Concerts took on ever more monumental proportions, while the albums reflected a constantly expanding artistic ambition, capable of combining sonic power, instrumental virtuosity, blues, folk and experimentation. Beyond the mythology, the excess and the live exploits, it's above all the music that bears witness to the scale of their legacy. Across eight studio albums released during their career and one posthumous collection, Led Zeppelin helped lay the foundations of modern rock".

So here is Far Out Magazine's ranking of Led Zeppelin's best albums (full feature here).
