After a period relatively away from the stage following the release and tour of "Romance", their 2024 album, Fontaines D.C. are back playing live. In the meantime, the Irish band had hardly been idle, taking part in various projects, including the soundtrack to "Peaky Blinders" and War Child's charity compilation "HELP(2)". At the end of July, the group had also taken part in the BBC's latest session at the historic Maida Vale studios, performing "Roy's Tune" live for the first time since 2024.
The band's return to the stage took place at the Baluarte de la Candelaria in Cadiz, Spain, on the first of two shows scheduled in the Andalusian city. It was also Fontaines D.C.'s first concert since the death, this summer, of longtime manager Trevor Dietz, regarded by the band as a kind of "sixth member". The main surprise of the evening, however, was the live debut of two unreleased songs, "Marianne" and "Six Shot Morning". The first shows clear echoes of Depeche Mode, while the second moves along darker, more menacing lines, with a pronounced electronic and synthetic component. Both tracks seem to further develop the dark, cinematic atmospheres already explored on "Romance", hinting at a possible new direction for the group. Here are the two tracks below along with the concert setlist:
