Elena Tonra reopens the Ex:Re chapter: new album "Save As" on the way, preceded by single "Radio Station"

Some projects are born to burn themselves out within the span of a single, painful breath. When in 2018 Elena Tonra briefly set aside the Daughter name to release her self-titled debut as Ex:Re, the move carried all the hallmarks of cathartic urgency paired with a sense of one-off uniqueness. An intimate, nocturnal, confessional diary, meant, in the London singer-songwriter's intentions, to remain an isolated, unrepeatable episode. But emotional material often follows its own logic, and songwriting ends up overriding intentions: October 30th thus marks the unexpected return of the solo moniker with the new album "Save As".

The record's genesis dates back to 2023, when Tonra, once again crossing the threshold of the studio alongside trusted collaborator and producer Fabian Prynn, began dusting off old sketches and sound fragments left to settle for years. That never-faded chemistry did the rest, turning castoffs from the past into the backbone of a work centred on the value of memory, the fragility of recollection, and the need to anchor states of mind to a permanent trace.

Leading the way is the single "Radio Station", placed not by chance at the top of the tracklist, accompanied by a striking video directed by Angela Ricciardi. The song uses constant frequency-switching as a visceral metaphor for an overthinking mind: a continuous sensory tug-of-war, a background noise that paralyses willpower and prevents any kind of resolve. In this scenario, the very act of recording the songs becomes for Tonra a device for emotional archiving (hence the title "Save As"): imprinting images into music in order to rescue them from oblivion, turning listening and live performance into a dizzying time machine.

The album will be released by 4AD and made available from October 30th on all digital platforms, alongside physical formats including CD, standard black vinyl and a special vinyl edition.
