Backdoor Festival kicks off, with John Greaves & Annie Barbazza and Mary Lattimore on stage

05-05-2026

Two events of rare quality mark the spring edition of Backdoor Festival, the independent showcase that has for years brought experimental music, publishing encounters and critical thought to Castelfranco di Sotto (PI). On the Backdoor stage on May 8, two central figures of the European avant/prog scene will meet: John Greaves – Welsh, born in 1950, founder of Henry Cow, collaborator with Robert Wyatt, Brian Eno, Michael Nyman, Carla Bley, Mike Oldfield and dozens of others – and Annie Barbazza, multi-instrumentalist and vocalist discovered by Greg Lake, who brought her on stage at eighteen and produced her Moonchild project for Manticore Records. May 22 will instead belong to Mary Lattimore, one of the most original voices in international ambient music. A Pennsylvania-born harpist long based in Los Angeles, recording for Ghostly International, she builds slow, lunar, hypnotic soundscapes with her harp and subtle electronic touches. Her latest album, "Goodbye, Hotel Arkada", is a record about change and loss, inspired by a Croatian hotel she visited shortly before its demolition. It features Lol Tolhurst (TThe Cure), Rachel Goswell (Slowdive), Roy Montgomery, and Samara Lubelski. For more info click here.
