Hot Chip: new album “A Long Way From Kansas” announced. Listen to the single “Random Violence”

19-10-2026

Hot Chip have officially announced the details of their ninth studio album: it will be titled “A Long Way From Kansas” and will be released on 8 January 2027 via the storied label Domino.

The record arrives four years after “Freakout/Release” (2022) and was recorded entirely at Relax and Enjoy, the studio owned by Joe Goddard and Al Doyle in east London. The title draws directly on the imagery of “The Wizard of Oz”, evoking the constant search for belonging, warmth and stability at the heart of a present marked by disorder and fragmentation.

On a conceptual level, frontman Alexis Taylor described the intellectual and stylistic climate in which the album came together like this:

“A Long Way From Kansas” reflects the general feeling that the world we live in, the world we were making the record in, is particularly harsh, dissonant, violent and depressing. That doesn't mean every song is about the world and politics, but it was an inescapable backdrop while we were making the music.

Made up of eleven tracks, the album also boasts two illustrious international guest appearances: the scratchy, eclectic voice of Beth Ditto on the track “Me In Your Head” and the soulful, elegiac touch of Eddie Chacon on “The Garden”.

Below is the album's full tracklist:

  1. Stuck Around
  2. Waiting Around
  3. Random Violence
  4. The Mask Is Slipping
  5. Splinter
  6. Shortcut To Love
  7. Me In Your Head (feat. Beth Ditto)
  8. Hook Me Up
  9. Secular Hymns
  10. The Garden (feat. Eddie Chacon)
  11. Crushingrushing
