Francesco Paolo Ferrotti

Former Contributor

Francesco Paolo Ferrotti was born in Palermo in 1980, under the sign of Aquarius. He studied music from childhood, and earned his classical high school diploma at the Liceo Umberto I in Palermo. From 1996 to 2002, he worked as a vocalist and guitarist in several bands in his home city. Musically, he moved from a punk-rock background toward a growing passion for the golden age of rock and roll, for teenage dreams and early-'60s "American graffiti", for the vocal harmonies of doo-wop, and for the imagery of the Californian endless summer, which would later inspire his literary writing. In 2008, he earned his four-year degree in Disciplines of Arts, Music and Performance (DAMS), Art curriculum, from the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy in Palermo. Over the years, his interests have grown to span history and philosophy, anthropology and religion, comparative mythology and the psychology of the unconscious, photography and poetry. In 2012 he earned his PhD in Aesthetics and Theory of the Arts from the University of Palermo, with a thesis on the aesthetics of rock approached through archetypal psychology, drawing on the thought of Carl G. Jung and the American scholars Joseph Campbell and James Hillman. In 2015, he founded the Facebook page "Il ritorno di Zarathustra" ("The Return of Zarathustra"), dedicated to the philosophical thought of Friedrich Nietzsche, of whom he is an avid scholar and admirer. He has published three collections of poetry between 2013 and 2015, and is currently working on his first work of fiction, inspired by the vintage imagery of rock and roll and the archetypes of youth culture. He is the Italian translator of Rules for a Knight by Ethan Hawke, Rules for a Knight, published by Edizioni Sonda in November 2020, and the subject of an in-depth feature on Ondacinema. ***** He wrote for Ondarock from 2003 to 2012, producing in-depth feature articles and reviews. He has met and interviewed leading figures of the international music scene, including Michael Nyman, Ludovico Einaudi, and Marky Ramone. He has also occasionally written for other publications, such as Il Mucchio Selvaggio and Jamboree Magazine, as well as Ondacinema. ____ OndaCinema:James Dean and Rebel YouthRocky Balboa
