I was born in Naples, and I still live there. Cinema became a passion in my teenage years: at 14 I discovered the films of Stanley Kubrick, and about a year later came Charlie Chaplin and Buster Keaton, thanks to a memorable season of "Fuori Orario" on Rai Tre, a programme I owe a great deal to. I spent years watching 2-3 films a day, with all the side effects that implies (for better and worse). I can't say I've calmed down much since. I learned to know and love, perhaps even prematurely, directors like Mizoguchi, Bresson, Murnau, Ozu, Hawks, Dreyer. But I also watch "lowlier" cinema. Over the years I've amassed a collection of thousands of films. To understand me, as well as my taste in cinema, it's essential to watch "The Apartment", "City Lights" and "L'Atalante" (the films of my life, though more broadly the comedies of Chaplin and Wilder are the warmest embraces cinema has ever given me). Cinema aside, rock music (and its many offshoots), jazz, literature and painting are passions I simply can't give up.
